Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko said on Wednesday that her country`s preparations to co-host Euro 2012 along with Poland are proceeding successfully, RIA Novosti reported.

"I would like to point out that preparations for Euro are going well and at full pace and that the championship in Ukraine will be fully provided for," Tymoshenko told a government session.

Ukraine has been under pressure from UEFA fueling speculation that the competition could be handed to another country.

At a UEFA Executive Committee meeting in Bucharest in mid-May, only Kiev was considered a suitable venue, with the Ukrainian cities of Lviv, Donetsk and Kharkiv being given until November 30 to carry out improvements and provide proof of their suitability as UEFA stadiums.

Michel Platini, UEFA president, said at the time, "There are huge infrastructure problems to be resolved in Ukraine."

Ukraine has been hard hit by the economic crisis and plagued by seemingly endless political instability, which has exacerbated its problems.

This is the first time that a major football tournament has been awarded to Eastern Europe, and a successful competition is likely to benefit Russia`s bid to host the 2018 World Cup.
