Klitschko was the WBC heavyweight title-holder when he retired, with a record of 35-2 with 34 knockouts, according to Sports Network.

More than two years after back and knee injuries forced him out of fighting, former WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko will return to the ring.

"I`ve been back in the gym for a couple of weeks and I feel great," the 36-year-old fighter said in a statement posted on his official website. "My injuries have healed, and after much hard work and with the approval of my doctors, I am cleared to continue my boxing career."

Klitschko hopes to face current WBC heavyweight champion Oleg Maskaev. It would be his first bout since an eight-round win over Danny Williams on Dec. 11, 2004.

Klitschko was the WBC heavyweight title-holder when he retired, with a record of 35-2 with 34 knockouts.

Maskaev retained his title with a unanimous decision over Peter Okhello on December 10, improving his record to 33-5 with 26 knockouts.
