WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (39-2, 37 KO’s) has selected wisely in picking the little known, unproven, short 6’2” Polish heavyweight Albert Sosnowski (45-2-1, 27 KO’s) to slaughter in front of what will probably be a huge captive audience next week on May 29th at the Veltins Arena, in Gelsenkirchen, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany, according to BoxingNews24.com.

Sosnowski, 31, is short, slow and easily hit. He struggled badly against Danny Williams before beating him two years ago, and was beaten by journeyman Zuri Lawrence by an eight round decision in August 2008. Klitschko, 38, would much prefer to face WBA heavyweight champion David Haye in a unification bout. However, Haye has shown little interest in fighting Vitali or his brother, other than talking a lot in the media about how bad he thinks both Klitschko brothers are as fighters.

Vitali has all the advantages against Sosnowski except for youth, and that probably won’t matter because Sosnowski will likely be left prone on the canvas by the midpoint of the fight. Sosnowski only fights in one way by constantly coming forward trying to land big power shots. This is the perfect opponent for Klitschko, who does well against fighters that come to him and are there for his left hooks, and bit right hands.

Sosnowski doesn’t have the reach or the hand speed to find Vitali’s chin on a regular basis unless Vitali just stands there with his hands down. Sosnowski looks to be in the best shape of his life for this fight, but it probably won’t matter. Vitali hits too hard and he’s got too much size for Sosnowski.

In Klitschko’s last fight against Kevin Johnson, Vitali had a hard time landing his right hands against Johnson because the American fighter played a modern version of a rope-a-dope technique and kept his head buried under his shoulders to keep from getting hit. Unable to land right hands, Vitali settled for nailing Johnson with short left hooks and jabs to the head and body. Johnson, a fighter with excellent defensive skills, seemed unhappy that Vitali was still able to land his shots. Johnson never was able to do much on the offensive side of the fight, content to just throw jabs every now and then. But while Johnson looked hopelessly outclassed in this fight, he would still likely be more than good enough to beat the likes of Sosnowski.

That shows how much of a problem Sosnowski is going to have in next week’s fight against Vitali. Sosnowski doesn’t have the skills to make this competitive and with him coming forward all night long, it’s only a matter of time before Vitali lands one of his big shots to put him away. In an ideal world, Sosnowski would have had to prove himself by beating some of the top contenders in the heavyweight division like Denis Boytsov and Alexander Povetkin to get a title shot against Vitali.

Unfortunately, Sosnowski is coming into the fight with Klitschko based on 12 round draw with Francesco Pianeta and a 12 round decision over Paulo Vidoz. That’s seems hardly good enough to fight a top fighters like Vitali Klitschko.
