Scotland is ready to take over the organisation of the European Football Championships in 2012 from Poland and Ukraine, declared chief executive of the Scottish Football Association (SFA) Gordon Smith, according to Poslkie Radio.

In an interview for Sunday Herald, Smith assured that if the joint hosts – Poland and Ukraine – are not able to hold the EURO 2012 finals, the tournament could take place in Scotland.

According to Gordon Smith, Glasgow alone has three stadiums which could be used to host international matches.

Last week during the UEFA Executive Committee session in Zagreb, Croatia, the organization expressed concern over insufficient progress in building stadiums, highways and airports and over the organizational and political chaos in Poland and Ukraine.

Recently, president of the Italian league, Antonio Matarrese, put Italy forward to host the 2012 European Championships together with another country if UEFA  deprives Poland and Ukraine of the tournament.

President of UEFA, Michel Platini said, however, that Poland and Ukraine must be ready in time as there is, ‘no plan B.’
